Everything you need to know about living in residence

COVID-19 Information Page

Please be advised: Huron has delayed the opening of residence for September 2020 to January 2021. Huron will be evaluating the situation on an ongoing basis and will continue to be in touch with students. If you have questions, please contact huronrez@huron.uwo.ca. For those who moved out in March 2020, our standard dates and processes for move out are no longer applicable as we continue to navigate this in the best interests of our students. It is currently advised to not return to campus to collect any belongings left behind. There is no longer any access to residential buildings or residence rooms. We will be in touch at a later time when it is safe to return and empty rooms.

Living in residence gives students countless opportunities to develop lifelong friendships, explore their independence and immerse themselves fully in the unique experiences offered within Huron’s close-knit community. Our university is committed to fostering a fun, safe and inclusive environment for all our Leaders with Heart, and part of living that promise means ensuring you and your families know exactly what to expect when it comes to living on campus. Below, we’ve tried our best to provide all the information and resources you should need to better understand what it’s like to eat, breathe and sleep Huron. We can’t wait to welcome you to your new home!

Meal Plan

Students in Residence: All students living in residence must participate in the food plan. Students dine in the Huron Dining Hall, located on Huron's campus just a short walk from the residences. The meal plan is based on an "all you care to eat" system. The set price covers all meals, every day, for the entire academic year.

Flex dollars are included in your meal plan purchase and can be topped up at any time. There are Huron and Western flex dollars. Huron flex dollars can be used to purchase at the Retail Kiosk or any of the vending machines located throughout Huron’s Campus. Western flex dollars can be used at any food service location at Western. Western flex dollars can be topped up at Western.

Non-Resident Students: Non-Resident Students have a few options open to them. You can purchase the full year meal plan or one of the bulk meal plan purchase options or just pay as you go (our Guest Access). Any option purchased will allow you to access the Dining Hall for an All You Care to Eat experience.

Retail Kiosk: There will be a retail kiosk at the entrance to the Dining Hall where students can pick up sandwiches, drinks and other ‘Grab and Go’ options. These can be paid for with debit, credit, cash or Huron flex dollars.

Dining Hall

The Dining Hall is located on the Huron campus, steps from Western. It offers a unique dining experience, varied cuisine and top quality service, in air-conditioned, smoke-free, spacious dining rooms. Brown's Dining Solutions is Canada's largest independently owned dining solutions company and operates exclusively as a dining services provider in over 140 sites in Canada. In support of the commitment to providing the best service, products, and value possible, Brown's will establish a committee of students, and staff to continually review a range of subjects that impact users daily, including operating hours, menus, and value.

If you have special dietary needs you should speak to our Food Service Manager to make sure your needs are met as effectively as possible. Brown's can suggest the proper meal plan. Email huronmanager@browns.ca for more details.

Oxford Street Grill

"Brown's Signature Burgers", fries, poutine, dogs, tacos, and so much more will be featured at the Oxford Street Grill.

Brown's In-House Pizza

Better Ingredients, Better Pizza

Fire Roasted Coffee Company

A local, fair trade, and ethical coffee company which supports sustainability, with a full range of fresh pastries and snacks available.

Savoury

Savoury will bring the taste of home to the Huron Centre. Home-style meals and à la carte choices are the primary focus of Savoury, with many menu options developed to "lighten" up offerings for those who prefer smaller portions, lower fat choices, or have special dietary needs. Students are invited to bring their favourite recipes from home, especially those for vegetarian and ethnic dishes. If a suggestion is used on the menu, the student and a friend will enjoy a complimentary meal.

Fastlane

Students in a rush can stop by Fastlane for freshly made sandwiches, wraps, sushi, salads, soups, snacks, and beverages all ready to go when they are.
